Shot Caller: A Podcast by Shannon Sagawe

Aug 25, 2019

I spoke to Bodil about her path starting as a young girl from Jutland, Denmark, beginning her career as a reporter in a farming community, recreating herself as a criminal reporter and eventually becoming Denmark's most legendary Royal reporter, giving an infamous interview with Prince Henrik of Denmark that caused quite a stir at the time.

In her role as the Danish Royal Reporter, she covered all the major royal events, christenings, birthdays, weddings and funerals and traveled the globe on the heels of the royal family.

Some of the highlights of her career were meeting Nelson Mandela, George H.W. Bush and Desmond Tutu.  She was also in attendance at Princess Diana's funeral, which we discuss.

Bodil tells us what it was like to be a female trailblazer in the 1950's and 60's in Denmark.  We hear how she ingeniously bought her first home and the subsequent one's, something very rare for women in those days. We also discuss the "me too" movement and how she was taught as a young girl by her parents that a "no, was always a no!"
